Loving God  Growing in Faith Serving Christ

VOCAL MUSIC PROGRAM

Main Street has long been known for its great music ministry. Music sets the tone and mood for worship, joins us as a community, and provides opportunity for expression of our deepest feelings of joy, celebration and remembrance.

Our music ministry includes:
  • Chancel Choir, which sings every Sunday and on special occasions
  • Youth Choir, Main Street Singers
  • Handbell Choirs, Flute Choir, and instrumentalists who perform with the choirs from time to time
  • Visiting Choirs and, of course, Christmas caroling to our shut-ins

Main Street Singers

Main Street Singers will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6-7 pm. Children ages 3-1st grade will have choir practice from 6-6:25 pm, and children ages 2nd-5th grade will have choir practice from 6:30-7 pm.

Youth Choir

The Youth Choir is for all children grades 6 through 12. They sing contemporary, gospel, traditional, and seasonal music in a worship setting. The choir performs for Main Street and other places in the Waynesboro area at times. Director for Youth Choir is Leola Burks. Rehearsals are Sunday evening at 5:30 p.m.

Chancel Choir:

The Chancel Choir is our adult choir, which sings traditional, classical and gospel music, as well as annual Easter and Christmas cantatas. Currently they practice at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Choir Room.  They welcome new members at any time. Don Coffey, who is also a JMU graduate and Director of the Waynesboro Choral Society, leads this choir.

HANDBELLS

Handbell music has been a part of Main Street's ministry since 1978 when Edith Dollins and Charlene Plunkett formed the first handbell choir. Currently we have five handbell groups. Don Dollins is our Handbell Choir Director. With the exception of holidays, the choirs meet weekly from September through May for practice, and play a variety of religious and secular music.

Genesis Choir

This is our beginning handbell choir for sixth graders and up. They practice every Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., and play in church three or four times a year.

Handbell Choir

This is a ladies' handbell choir, and the second oldest choir, having been formed in 1981. The ladies frequently take the bells "on the road ", playing in such places as local schools, nursing homes, other churches and at the Frontier Museum. They practice every Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m.

Master Peace Ringers

This is a mixed choir and have played at the Frontier Museum and perform regularly during church services. They practice every Sunday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
