Reverend Neil Hough has been pastor of Main Street UMC since July 2009. He has been in full-time ministry since 1994, serving Mt. Sinai UMC in Harrisonburg, VA and Emmanuel UMC in Stephenson, VA. He was ordained as an Elder in The United Methodist Church in 1996.
Prior to full-time ministry, he was a Civil Engineer Corps officer in the U.S. Navy and also worked for an engineering consulting firm. He has a civil engineering degree from Old Dominion University and master of divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC. Reverend Hough is married to Reverend Anne Hough and has two stepsons, Robert and Andrew Richardson who live in Fredericksburg, VA and Norman, OK. In June 2010, Andrew married the former Emily Foster, and the Houghs welcomed a new daughter-in-law to the family.
During Advent, Pastor Neil will be preaching a sermon series called The Advent Conspiracy. The birth of Jesus was light in darkness; it was hope in the midst of despair. It was a conspiracy started by the Creator of a world that had been overcome by sin and the powers of darkness. In this series, we will consider what the prophets of the Old and New Testaments tell us about the Christ and the kind of Kingdom he brought to earth. We will focus on a new kind of conspiracy (amid the celebration of North American Christmas) a conspiracy to worship more, spend less, give more, and love all. | Sermon | Use Quick Time player | GPS | Enote

Friends, Since Easter I have heard many comments and feedback about the 40 Days of Prayer devotional emails. I have greatly appreciated your kind words and taken to heart the many people who told me that they have missed them. So, after prayer and reflection, I've decided to continue providing some devotional material for the Main Street Church Family (and those outside the church family who also received them.) My prayer is that they will draw us closer to God and closer to each other as we read Scripture, reflect, and pray together. I'm not going to promise that I'll send something every single day, but will do my best to provide 4-5 each week.

| 40 Days of Prayer | ||||||||||||||||
|
Dear Friends,
At the February Church Council meeting, I asked members of the Church Council to join me for 40 Days of Prayer for Main Street Church. I believe that God is faithful and that prayer is one of God's primary means of guiding and transforming our lives. Prayer is a means of God's grace: it is one of the ways we love God, grow in our faith, and learn to serve Christ. I'm sending you this email as an invitation to join us as we pray for the church, the community, and the world. To facilitate our 40 Days of Prayer for Main Street Church, I promised that, for the 40 days of Lent, I would send a daily email with a suggested Scripture reading, a thought for the day, and a focus for prayer. Today's installment is included below. (If you do not wish to receive these messages, please feel free to let me know.) Please join us as we pray and feel free to share these messages with others. Thank you for your faithfulness to God's ministry through Main Street Church.
